What's Multi-lingual Theatre?
‘다언어 연극’ 이란?
"マルチ"メディア、"マルチ"な機能...
”マルチ”とは「複数の」もしくは「多様な」というような意味を持っています。
「マルチリンガル」とは、日本でもよく聞く「バイリンガル」のマルチ版。
３種以上の多言語です。
Multimedia, multifunction... We use the prefix “multi-“ when we refer to the idea of “having many”.
“Bilingual” means two languages, “trilingual” means three languages, “quadrilingual” means four.... we could go on and on, but as we don’t want to specify exactly how many, we say “multilingual” to mean more than one language.
“멀티”미디어, “멀티”한 기능....
“멀티(multi)” 란 ‘복수의’ 또는 ‘다양한’ 이라는 의미가 있습니다.
‘multilingual’ 란 일본에서도 자주 듣게 되는 ‘2개 언어(bilingual)’의 멀티 판.
3가지 종류 이상의 다언어입니다.
マルチリンガル演劇は多数の言語が作品全般で複雑に絡み合うものから、複数の言語の字幕を表示するだけのものまで、様々なタイプがありますが、私たちマルチリンガル演劇実行委員会では、
マルチリンガル演劇を以下のように定義します。
There are many styles of multilingual theatre including but not limited to:
shows where multiple languages are intertwined
shows with just subtitles in multiple languages.
We, Multilingual Theatre Tokyo, would like to use the following definition:
다언어 연극은 다수 언어가 작품 전반에 걸쳐 복잡하게 조합되어 사용되는 것으로부터,
여러 언어 자막을 표시하기만 하는 것까지 다양한 유형이 있습니다만,
저희 다언어 연극 집행 위원회에서는 다언어 연극을 다음과 같이 정의합니다.

プロのアーティストであっても、演劇未経験者であっても、マルチリンガルであっても、一つの言語を話す人であっても、誰もが平等に、互いへの敬意と好奇心をもって演劇創作をできる空間づくりに挑戦しています。マルチリンガル演劇の先駆的存在であり、パリをベースに世界で活躍するアーティスト集団 Instat MIX theatre lab の活動から学び、それを日本向けにアレンジすることで、日本で暮らす皆さんにも、パフォーマーや観客として、気軽に多文化共生、異文化コミュニケーションの面白さを体験していただきたいと思っております。
Whether you’re a professional artist or have never tried theatre in your life, whether you’re multilingual or monolingual, we strive to create a friendly environment where everyone’s opinions are equally valued, everyone respects and is interested in one another, as we work together to create a show. Learning from the activities of Instant MIX Theatre Lab, the pioneer troupe of multilingual theatre from Paris, we modify those activities to people living in Japan can enjoy cultural diversity and intercultural communication.
프로 예술가든지, 연극 미경험자든지, 또는 다언어든지, 한 가지 언어로 말하는 사람이든지,
누구든 평등하게 서로에게 경의와 호기심을 가지고서 연극 창작을 할 수 있는 공간 만들기에 도전하고 있습니다.
다언어 연극의 선구적인 존재이며, 파리를 기반으로 세계에서 활약하는 예술가 집단 Instat MIX theatre lab의 활동을 배우고 그것을 일본식으로 변형시킴으로써, 일본에 거주하는 여러분에게도 퍼포머 또는 관객으로서 가벼운 마음으로 다문화 공생, 이문화 커뮤니케이션의 재미를 체험해 볼 기회를 제공해 드리고자 합니다.

マルチリンガル演劇実行委員会では、方言、手話、デタラメ語も一つの言語と考えます。
関西弁と標準語が話せて、実はちょっと手話も分かっちゃう、あなた。

Even if you’re like “But I only know one language....”
There’s nothing to worry about!
Think more like “We’re gonna have fun playing theatre games using language as a tool to play with!
We consider dialects, sign languages, spoken languages, and even gibberish as languages.
If you know how to speak more than one dialect of one language, or know how to sign American Sign Language, British Sign Language, Japanese Sign Language, etc. you’re totally multilingual!
Go ahead and come play with us!
And you there, who only speak one dialect, you can contribute a lot by interacting with people who speak different languages than yours! As long as you have a desire to use multiple languages to create a play, and enjoy the whole experience, you can be a great performer too!

라며 주눅 들지 마세요. 언어를 장난감으로 삼아서 함께 연극 놀이를 한다고 생각해 주세요. 다언어 연극 실행 위원회는 방언, 수화, 엉터리 말 등도 하나의 언어로 생각합니다. 간사이 사투리와 표준어를 둘 다 말할 수 있고, 사실은 수화도 조금 알고 있는 당신. 그것이 바로 다언어 화자입니다!
